House Committee Chairman on Youth and Social Development in Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu has charged all stakeholders in the Nigerian project to invest in the youths in order for the nation to achieve greatness.
Kasunmu, who is representing Ikeja Constituency 02, said that although youth unemployment was a global problem, various government policies in the nation had failed in addressing the problem.
He said this at the annual Family Funfair/ Youth Development Day organised by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Lagos Branch, urging states to take steps to arrest the unemployment situation.
“It has become imperative for us as stakeholders in the Nigerian project, that if we must truly have an enduring legacy and build our nation on a solid foundation, we must first build, equip and empower our teeming youth population,” Kasunmu stated.
He urged other states to emulate Lagos by creating a ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment to address youth unemployment.
While commending women journalists for effectively combining the pressure of the newsroom with the task of being wives and mothers, he advised youths to shun peer pressure and always do what is right.
In her welcome address, Chairman of Lagos NAWOJ, Mrs. Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu stressed the need for early grooming of children towards becoming good citizens.
She added that, towards building a crime-free and self-reliant future for the youths, the Youth Development programme will be held quarterly by the association.
