Gidi Fest is about youth empowerment – Chin Okeke

Founder, Gidi Culture Festival otherwise known as Gid Fest, Chin Okeke has said that the oneday beach festival is geared towards creating a tradition for youth empowerment as well as celebrating African music, culture and people in every form. Speaking at a conference in Lagos on Tuesday to announce the 3rd edition of what is best known as ‘Africa’s Biggest Beach Festival’, Okeke said: “Gidi Fest has two things to achieve: to create a platform for the culture, our music, with a global outlook, and to create a safe environment for thje youth to come together.

The main thing is youth empowerment. “It is a music festival that defines the progression of music and urban youth culture in Africa. The festival was naturally born in Lagos because the city is the melting pot of the continent, yet it maintains a global outlook. Our line-up represents the current crop of African music stars.” Okeke remarked that they were really excited to be back this year, having learned a lot from the previous editions. “We genuinely feel this one ios going to put us on the global festival map and show the world that Lagos is the continen’t melting pot for music and culture.It’s about curating an experience for our people so there are some exciting upgrades that will surprise our guests,” he spoke further Organisers of the festival, Eclipse Live Africa has announced the lineup of artists, hosts and DJs for the 2016 edition of the festival which is back at Eko Atlantic on Saturday, March 26.

The beach festival opens its gates at noon with day activities ranging from beach sports headed by celebrity team captains, to tasting thve very best of African dishes at the food court, and of couse=rse live music from some of Africa’s best artists. The festival’s headliners includes Davido, Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Yemi Alade and Timaya. South Africa’s, K.O and Riky Rick will be coming to Nigeria for the first time to grace the stage. Opening acts include Adekunle Gold and Small Doctor. Hosts for Gidi Fest 2016 include MTV Base VJ’s, Nomuzi from South Africa and Nigeria’s very own, Ehiz, alongside City FM OAP, Sensei Uche. DJ Obi and DJ Kaywise will be on the decks with some comic relief from a couple of your favourite comedians. This year, Gidi Fest 2016 promises to be an astounding show with amazing vibes. Gidi Fest 2016 is brought to you by Eclipse Live, Eko Atlantic, Lagos State and Heineken with support from Red Bull, Mikano, Eko Hotel and Hyperia, while ticket prices are N2,000 (Regular) and N10,000#(VIP).
